I am always on the hunt for a good Twitter client. You can spend 9 years perusing Google Play for third-party Twitter clients. I bailed on the official Twitter client after their most recent redesign for Android. Tweetcaster feels like a trip back to 2009. I couldn’t get into Falcon Pro, because they were out of tokens. Enter Talon.
Talon provides all the features you’d expect from a good Twitter client. It has in-line media and video support and a built-in web browser. The app contains a YouTube player. Themes are customizable as are text sizes. My favorite theme is Black with the Hangouts styling. It looks amazing on the Super AMOLED screen of the Galaxy S5. You can mute users or set the app to “do not disturb” when you’re getting you GTD on. If you have a Galaxy Gear, you’re going to not want to receive notifications from Talon. You get alerts on your Gear or Gear 2/Neo that your tweet had been sent, which is pretty darn useless.
The widget is terrific. It refreshes automatically, but I haven’t seen much battery drain as a result. Tapping on a tweet within the widget or the app presents you with a popup containing the tweet and reply options. Swipe to the left and you can view any web links included in the tweet. Swipe to the right and you will see a tab called “conversations” where you will see a listing of replies to the tweet.
If you are still in the hunt for a good Twitter client, give Talon for Twitter a try. It runs for $1.99 in Google Play.
