Paramount released the first trailer for the recut Sonic the Hedgehog movie and it actually looks good.
The original Sonic the Hedgehog trailer was released in April and was met with strong criticism. People were weirded out by Sonic’s freaky body shape, weird eyeball design, and chicklet teeth. Also, Gangsta’s Paradise. A few weeks after the backlash, director Jeff Fowler tweeted that the movie would be delayed to make things right.
Today is the DAY! Could not be more excited to share our new Sonic with you. THANK YOU for your patience and support. This wouldn't have been possible without the fans. #SonicMovie

And make things right they did. The redesign was led by artist Tyson Hesse, who drew the Sonic comic books that were published under Archie Comics. The gloves are there. The eyes are appropriately spaced. The legs are shorter. The fur doesn’t look dirty like it did the first time around. There are lots of shots that pay homage to the comic books in the movie trailer.

This was an excellent move. The recut trailer combined with the Sonic redesign, this honestly looks like a movie I would very much like to see… even if Jim Carey is in it.
The movie stars the X-Men movies’ worst Cyclops – James Marsden as the local sheriff, Tom Wachowski, and Jim Carey as Dr. Ivo Robotnik. Sonic is voiced by Ben Schwartz. I’m assuming Tails is going to be in the post-credit scene, because everything has to be a franchise these days.
Congrats on the glow up, Sonic animators! Ya did good!
Based on the global blockbuster videogame franchise from Sega, SONIC THE HEDGEHOG tells the story of the world’s speediest hedgehog as he embraces his new home on Earth. In this live-action adventure comedy, Sonic and his new best friend Tom (James Marsden) team up to defend the planet from the evil genius Dr. Robotnik (Jim Carrey) and his plans for world domination. The family-friendly film also stars Tika Sumpter and Ben Schwartz as the voice of Sonic.
The film is being distributed by Paramount Pictures and has a new release date of February 14, 2020.
