The Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic kicked off during this week’s episode of NXT. The Dusty Classic kicked off with its first three matches of the tournament. Prior to the show and during the first half, the announcers were teased a new tag team by the name of MSK. The mystery team was to face off against the odd pairing of Isaiah “Swerve” Scott and Jake Atlas.
The tournament honoring the late WWE Hall of Famer and one of the pioneers behind NXT’s success, returns for 2021, with the winners earning an NXT Tag Team Championship opportunity.
I just recently started following Impact Wrestling again when WWE announced mass layoffs at the start of the pandemic. I was interested to see who would show up in the “Impact Zone.” This eventually led to the debut of a few former WWE stars making their debut at July’s Slammiversay PPV. It allowed me to take a look at their existing roster which included a high-flying trio of Dezmond Xavier, Zachary Wentz, and Trey Miguel… better known as The Rascalz. The Rascalz have since ended their run with Impact Wrestling with two of the three members making their NXT debut.
Dezmond Xavier and Zachary Wentz, now known as Wes Lee and Nash Carter respectively, made their debut as the tag team now known as MSK. The duo made their debut complete with an early 2000’s stylized logo against the formidable, but puzzling in terms of storyline, duo of Swerve Scott and Jake Atlas. The once-great NXT tag team division is in desperate need of bolstering, so it is great to see a new tag team join the brand.

The match was fast-paced, as expected given the four men in the ring. Vic Joseph gave a nod to their former tag team name as Wes Lee flew from the ring down to the floor taking out Scott and Atlas as he yelled “These rascals are high flying!”
After some serious back and forth action, Carter pinned Scott for the win following a tandem offensive move Jospeph called the “MSK.”
Good match. Good debut. Still don’t know what “MSK” is an acronym for. Still don’t know what the future holds for their former mate, Trey Miguel. However, solid debut for the duo now known as MSK. Looking forward to the new landscape of the NXT tag team division.
