AEW Dark Episode 6 Review

All Elite Wrestling aired their weekly web episode of dark matches on their YouTube channel this week on Friday instead of the usual Tuesday spot to hype up their Full Gear pay-per-view event airing this Saturday.

The show kicked off with Tony Schiavone and Dasha Gonzalez in the control center. I guess I was wrong about Dasha being a guest. Looks like this is an ongoing thing. Goldenboy and Excalibur were on commentary along with Arn Anderson for the first match and Chuck Taylor for the final two matches.

Hikaru Shida def. Big Swole

I’ve said it before, I’ll say it again. I love Big Swole. I also like Hikaru Shida, though.

Not a lot of offense here from Swole. Shida took Swole to the outside for a knee stike off a chair. Shida had Swole in a half crab back in the ring, Big Swole powered out only to get stomped on. Big Swole got a brief flurry of offense in following a headbutt and a Flatliner for a 2 count. Shida hit a backbreaker. The two trade knee strikes with Shida getting the better of the exchange. Hikaru wins with a running knee.

Another loss for Big Swole.

Nyla Rose and Leva Bares def. Shalandra Royal and Shazza McKenzie

Leva Bates is not a very good wrestler. Nyla Rose is still over with the crowd. Nyla wanted this to be a handicap match, but AEW management assigned Leva Bates as her tag team partner.

Rose dominated the entire match. Bates was never tagged in. She stood on the apron reading a book. Nyla stacked up both opponents on her shoulders and hit a Samoan drop. She stacked them up on top of each other and hit a senton from the top rope. She pin them both for the win.

Leva runs in celebrating book in hand.

Grade: 2 Stars

After the match, Rose cuts a fire promo backstage about how she’s been disrespected in the company despite dominating the Casino Battle Royale.

Scorpio Sky, Frankie Kazarian, and CIMA def. Kip Sabian, Jack Evans, and Angelico

Not sure how I feel about the tag champs (or any champion) on a dark match show. CIMA is great. I need more CIMA on AEW shows.

CIMA scored a hot tag from Scorpio Sky. He hit a stomp on Angelico, suplexed Sabian on top of Angelico, tossed Jack Evans onto the pile, and hit Evans on the top of the pile with a flying double knee. Kip Sabian ate an SCU Later from Sky and Kazarian. CIMA hit a Meteora pinning combo on Kip for the win.

This was a nice main event. It had all the potential to turn into a spot fest, but you can tell the guys were holding back quite a bit in advance of the pay-per-view.

Summary

This was an okay episode of AEW Dark. I’m glad to see them trying to get Rose back on track, but I’m sad to see them not pushing Big Swole. I’d love to see them build a feud where those two clash. The main event was a bit of a dud, but can’t fault the guys for that.
